“I Expected McBrown to Defend Me” — MzGee
Media personality MzGee has expressed disappointment in Nana Ama McBrown for not defending her when netizens accused her of taking over her show.

Background
Born Gloria Akpene, MzGee is a renowned radio and television presenter who rose to prominence at Multimedia Group Limited before joining Media General. At Media General, she became one of the leading faces of the company’s English entertainment brands and hosted several entertainment programmes.
She later left Media General to join 3Music Networks as co-host of its morning show before moving to Despite Media, where she replaced Nana Ama McBrown as host of United Showbiz on UTV Ghana.
During her tenure as host of United Showbiz, MzGee faced intense criticism from some social media users, many of whom claimed she had taken over McBrown’s show. Others argued that she could not fill McBrown’s shoes, while some criticized her command of the Twi language, noting that she is Ewe and was hosting a show largely centred on Twi-speaking audiences.
The presenter later travelled to the United States to host programmes and cover the Ghana Music Awards USA for the station. She eventually gave birth there before returning to Ghana. However, the show that attracted the most criticism during her time is now hosted by Gospel musician Empress Gifty Adorye.
Speaking about the backlash, MzGee said she felt hurt that McBrown did not publicly defend her. According to her, before accepting the role as host of United Showbiz, she personally reached out to McBrown to seek her blessings, which she received. She therefore expected McBrown to make that known publicly and clarify to critics that she was not responsible for her exit from the show.
“When people were insulting and spitting on me, I expected Nana Ama McBrown to speak up for me. You know, I get very emotional talking about it,” she said.
She further explained:
“People believed I was the reason she was ousted, but I want to put this on record today: when I was asked to host United Showbiz, the first thing I did was send her a DM. I told her, ‘Big sis, I’ve been told you’re no longer hosting the show. Please give me your blessings before I take your place.’ So, when people were insulting me, I expected Nana Ama McBrown to speak for me. Yes, I truly expected that,” she emphasized.
She also spoke about how painful the experience was, especially after seeking her approval beforehand.
“It hurt deeply. If I hadn’t sought her permission, it wouldn’t have affected me this much. I gave her that level of reverence, so it would have been nice for her to say, ‘This girl is not the problem. If I have an issue, it’s with management.’ I was not her problem. But I was left out there for people to rubbish me, claiming I was the reason she was sacked. Romeo, I learned a lot of lessons from hosting United Showbiz,” she told Nana Romeo Welewele on Okay FM’s Drive time show.

12 Years On: The Mysterious Disappearance of Ghanaian Music Star Castro
It has been 12 years since Ghanaian hiplife artist Theophilus Tagoe, popularly known as Castro, went missing, leaving behind one of the most haunting mysteries in the country’s music history.
Castro, born in 1982 in Takoradi, rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit songs such as “Sradinam” and later became a dominant force in Ghana’s hiplife and Azonto era. Known for his powerful vocals and energetic performances, he collaborated frequently with top acts, including football star Asamoah Gyan, producing popular songs like “African Girls”.

The Day He Disappeared
On 6 July 2014, Castro was on a holiday trip at Ada Estuary with friends, including Asamoah Gyan and others. During the outing, Castro and a female companion, Janet Bandu, went jet skiing on the Volta River estuary.
What was meant to be a recreational ride turned tragic when the two failed to return to shore. Panic quickly set in, and a search and rescue operation was launched involving marine police and local authorities.
Despite intensive efforts, the jet ski was recovered, but no bodies were ever found.

In the days and weeks that followed, hopes remained high that Castro might still be found alive. However, repeated searches yielded no breakthrough. Authorities later classified the case as a presumed drowning, though no final closure was ever publicly confirmed.
Over the years, the incident sparked widespread debate, theories, and emotional tributes from fans across Ghana and beyond. His father and close associates maintained hope for some time, while the music industry struggled to accept the uncertainty.
12 Years Later: Legacy of a Lost Star
Today, 12 years on, Castro remains a symbol of both musical greatness and unresolved tragedy. His songs continue to receive airplay, and his influence is still felt in Ghana’s contemporary music scene.
For many fans, he is not just remembered for his disappearance, but for the vibrant energy he brought to hiplife music and the unforgettable collaborations that defined an era.

The disappearance of Castro at Ada Foah remains one of Ghana’s most tragic and unresolved entertainment stories.
Twelve years later, the mystery endures — but so does his legacy. Through his music, performances, and impact on hiplife, Castro continues to live on in the memories of fans across Ghana and beyond.
