The New Patriotic Party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) has concluded its final engagement with aspirants and their representatives ahead of the party’s National Officers Election scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The engagement, chaired by NOEC Chairman Frederick Opare-Ansah, focused on the final rules, regulations, guidelines and operational arrangements for the election.

The election will be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with the National Annual Delegates Conference scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m.

Final delegates register ready

The NOEC announced that the Final Delegates Register had been completed and would be made available for collection from September 17.

Delegates have also been given access to an online verification facility to confirm their eligibility to participate in the election.

They can use the verification section of the NPP’s official website and enter either their phone number or Voter ID number to receive a one-time password (OTP) and check their eligibility.

Proxy voting arrangements confirmed

The committee also confirmed that proxy voting will be allowed under an approved Proxy Voting Framework.

The final Proxy Register is expected to be published on September 27, 2026.

The arrangement is intended to provide eligible delegates who qualify under the framework with an avenue to participate in the election through authorised proxy arrangements.

Youth and women delegates to vote in additional elections

The NOEC further clarified the voting arrangements for some categories of delegates.

All eligible youth delegates will participate in the election of the National Youth Organiser in addition to the other elections.

Similarly, all eligible female delegates will vote in the election of the National Women’s Organiser alongside the other national positions.

For the position of National Vice-Chairperson, each delegate will be required to select three aspirants, with the tally system to be used in determining the results.

Aspirants given role in ballot and polling preparations

Aspirants have been asked to submit the names of their printing agents who will monitor the ballot-printing process.

They are also required to submit the names and photographs of their polling agents for accreditation.

The measures form part of the committee’s preparations to ensure that representatives of the various aspirants can participate in the election process within the established rules.

Electoral Commission and Police to support election

The election will be conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, under the supervision of the NOEC.

The Ghana Police Service will also collaborate with the committee and the Electoral Commission on security arrangements for the exercise.

The NOEC has urged aspirants, their agents, supporters and delegates to comply with the approved electoral, accreditation and security arrangements.

Media accreditation deadline

Media organisations and bloggers intending to cover the National Annual Delegates Conference have also been reminded to complete the accreditation process.

The deadline for media accreditation is September 21, 2026, through the NPP’s official website.

A Media Village will be established at Baba Yara Sports Stadium for accredited media houses that wish to set up studios.

However, accredited media personnel will not have access to the inner perimeter of the stadium. An official broadcast feed will instead be provided for live transmission.

Delegates expected in Kumasi on October 2

According to the NOEC, delegates are expected to arrive in Kumasi on the evening of Friday, October 2, ahead of the conference the following morning.

The committee has expressed appreciation to the aspirants and their representatives for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to a fair, transparent, orderly and credible electoral process.

With the final engagement now completed, attention turns to October 3, when NPP delegates will gather in Kumasi to elect the party’s national officers.

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, Esq. has raised concerns over what he sees as weaknesses in the National Democratic Congress’ communication machinery, warning that the party could allow its political opponents to control the public narrative if urgent action is not taken.

In an interview granted by Maurice Otoo of Kessben Media, at GIMPA’s TEIN handover ceremony, the MP, Sosu argues that the NDC needs to “uplift” its communication outfit and make alternative arrangements to address what he describes as a communication gap.
He specifically points to the current workload of Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, suggesting that his responsibilities outside the party make it necessary for the NDC to strengthen or supplement its communications leadership.
Gyamfi currently serves as CEO of the Ghana Gold Board while remaining the NDC’s National Communications Officer.

According to the lawyer, the party risks leaving a vacuum that the opposition New Patriotic Party could exploit to promote narratives against the government. He further argues that whenever he appears on television or radio, he often finds himself confronting multiple opposition voices.

He therefore calls on government agencies to strengthen their communications departments and more actively publicise the work of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The Madina MP also urges the NDC to move from what he describes as a “defensive” to an “offensive” communication posture as the ruling party.
Sosu has recently been publicly defending the government’s record while also calling for accountability on issues such as the cocaine consignment intercepted in France, for which he demanded a thorough investigation.

The Member of Parliament for Madina, Dr Francis-Xavier Sosu, Esq, has launched a strong political attack on former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, urging him to abandon his presidential ambition.

In an interview at Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Studies Accra`s (GIMPA) Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) handing over ceremony, Sosu argued that Bawumia’s record as Vice President and head of the previous government’s Economic Management Team should form a central part of any assessment of his future presidential bid.
“Bawumia should forget about his presidential ambition… he will never become President in Ghana,” Sosu asserted.

The Madina MP also took aim at the economic record of the former Akufo-Addo administration, particularly its handling of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).
He pointed to former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo’s decision to join pensioner bondholders in protest at the Finance Ministry as evidence of the level of opposition the programme generated. Sophia Akuffo joined the pensioners in February 2023 as they demanded the total exemption of their investments from the DDEP, the first time ever under the fourth Republic for a former Chief Justice to lead such public uproar.

Sosu further argued that accountability and openness should remain central to Ghana’s politics, while accusing the previous administration of disappointing Ghanaians economically and making the former finance minister, Ofori Atta a fugitive of justice.
He maintained that Bawumia cannot distance himself from that administration’s economic record after serving as Vice President and playing a leading role in its economic management.

The comments are likely to intensify the political debate surrounding Bawumia’s future as Ghana’s political parties position themselves ahead of the 2028 general election.

Rashid Isah, an aspiring Deputy Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region, has outlined a youth-focused agenda centred on empowerment, self-reliance and greater opportunities for young people.

In an interaction at Ghana Institute of Management and Professional Studies Accra’s (GIMPA) Tertiary Education Institutional Network (TEIN) handover ceremony, he outlined his vision ahead of the November 13, 2026 regional elections, saying, his experience in party activities had strengthened his commitment to advocating for the youth.

He noted that although he had not served as a Regional Youth Organiser, he had “duly served the youth within the NDC and was part of those who worked to secure victory for the party during the 2024 general elections.

Mr Isah said his campaign would focus on mobilising dynamics, resources and connections to help young people move away from dependency and become self-sufficient.
“I will not promise to give physical cash to anyone but would create opportunities for the youth to help themselves,” he stated.

He also expressed concern about what he described as the difficulties faced by members of the party’s TEIN fraternity in accessing opportunities within government.
According to him, his ambition is to create opportunities that enable young people to build sustainable livelihoods and secure their future. Mr. Isah further pledged to promote the intellectual side of the NDC among Ghanaians so they can better understand and appreciate the work of the NDC government.

His name is not new to NDC electoral contests. He previously contested the NDC parliamentary primary in Tema West Constituency, where he was listed among the aspirants. In the 2023 primary, he polled 43 votes, representing 1.96 percent of votes cast in the constituency.

The aspiring regional executive is now appealing to NDC members across the Greater Accra Region to support his bid for Deputy Regional Youth Organiser when delegates go to the polls on November 13, 2026.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti Region, Abubakar Sedik, has died suddenly after attending official engagements in Kumasi.

Sedik reportedly passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026, after returning to Mankranso following a series of meetings involving Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga.

Final official engagements in Kumasi

The late DCE was among officials who met Minister Mahama Ayariga at the Kejetia Phase II project site as part of stakeholder engagements concerning the completion of the project.

The group subsequently held discussions with trader unions at the Kumasi Central Market. The meeting ended at about 5:00 p.m., after which Sedik and some other DCEs proceeded to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for another engagement with the minister.

Sudden illness after returning to Mankranso

Reports indicate that Sedik fell ill after returning to the district capital.

According to reports, he complained of body pains and was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he died.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, described the death as a sudden loss following a brief illness and extended condolences to Sedik’s family, colleagues, constituents and the people of the Ashanti Region.

Some reports have referred to a possible heart-related condition, but official medical confirmation of the precise cause of death had not been made public at the time of reporting.

District plunged into mourning

News of the DCE’s death has sent shockwaves through Ahafo Ano South West, with residents, political supporters and local officials expressing grief.

The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly described Sedik as a hardworking public servant who served the people of the district with commitment and a good heart.

Residents and NDC supporters reportedly gathered at the party office in Mankranso after news of his passing emerged.

From parliamentary candidate to DCE

Before becoming DCE, Abubakar Sedik served as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South West in the 2024 elections.

He was subsequently appointed to lead the district assembly and had been involved in a number of development initiatives in the area.

His recent public activities included work connected to the proposed 24-hour economy market at Mankranso, a project that had generated public discussion in the district.

His death comes amid recent public attention

Sedik had recently been in the news over controversy surrounding plans for the proposed 24-hour economy market and the future of a school facility at Mankranso.

He had denied allegations that he was spearheading an attempt to demolish the school facility, with recent reports indicating that he had participated in a site inspection concerning the project shortly before his death.

Ashanti Region mourns

The sudden death of the serving DCE has left the Ahafo Ano South West District without one of its key local government officials and has triggered an outpouring of condolences.

Further details concerning funeral arrangements and burial rites are expected to be announced by his family and the relevant authorities.

For now, the district, colleagues and residents are mourning a public official whose final known day involved official duties in Kumasi before his sudden illness and death later that evening.
